2022.11.21-23. - Three consecutive days of eating out for lunch (and trying a new vegan place!)

If you've ever wondered where we go out to eat in Ulaanbaatar, here are three great places.

I had a class, then stayed in the office to write my lesson plan for the next class and print all the exercise sheets out. Then we had lunch at the vegetarian café, and I went to have a nice swim. It was an intense workout, after which it was nice to come home and just relax for the evening (although I did read some research papers for my own research that I gotta start working on).

A rare sight in Mongolia: high humidity
(only happened because the laundry had been drying in this small room with the door closed)

Another rare right: the intersection in front of MUIS main building NOT jammed with cars

2022.11.22. – Bosco Verde - the Hungarian-Mongolian-Italian restaurant

After a late morning we had a trip to the gym with my hubby for a proper workout, then walked to this vegan Italian restaurant for a late lunch. To our great surprise, the waitress spoke Hungarian, used to live in Hungary (is even a Hungarian citizen, although looks Mongolian), and even had Hungarian décor. It was so funny, I pointed out the Hungarian plates on the wall to my husband, and he said it was impossible that they were Hungarian, but I kept insisting they looked just like the ones in my grandparents' house - turns out I was right. After our lunch the lady also took us to a backroom where she had a coats-hanger and a mirror that were from Hungary. So they have Hungarian things in a vegan Italian restaurant in Mongolia. Impressed and surprised. Then we walked home, and spent the evening not doing much, being super tired from our workouts and the (long) walks. Also, it’s getting quite cold outside by now, which is not so fun.

A part of the city we'd never been to before

to our utter bafflement: Hungarian plates on the wall

Now this is what the intersection usually looks like

I had a meeting in the morning with Otgontuya, then we went to the bank to get my card and to open an account for my husband too. On the way home, we had lunch at Agnista.  I only spent about half an hour at home before going back to the uni for my afternoon class, and some lesson planning in the office afterwards. In the evening, I’ve actually watched a movie (it was a horror/thriller which I usually hate and wouldn’t watch but for some reason the post I’d come across about it intrigued me so I watched it anyway – it wasn’t that cathartic for me, but I guess the things I read and the few non-Hollywood films I’ve seen make me prepared for twists or idk); then I also did my daily dose of HP1 reading, despite being exhausted – fell into bed completely depleted just a bit before 2 am, which is a bit unusual for me (being that tired that early) but hey, long days, not much sleep, cold weather, who knows. I am starting to suspect we are both low on some vitamins too.

Dinner was grilled veggies - we like this toaster
