Moving to Mongolia - How it all started
This is just a quick entry to let anyone who may not yet know in on why and how we ended up in Mongolia to begin with.
I am a Hungarian as a Foreign Language teacher and we'd wanted to move abroad for years with my husband - only I'd needed to get my qualifications first (and then we took a kind of gap year when I had two knee surgeries that had been in the making since my childhood). This summer though, the summer of 2022, we were feeling ready for the challenge. Our only problem was that there weren't many countries that took applications for Hungarian teachers (as visiting lecturers) and since most European countries ask that you speak their language (like French or Spanish) and not just English, we couldn't go there as I only speak Scandinavian languages and some German. The National University of Mongolia kept popping up in my emails as they couldn't seem to be able to find a visiting lecturer willing to apply and at first (and second, and third, to be honest) I didn't want to either. However, through a series of events I won't detail here, we decided to just give it a go. And so I applied and got the job and - after weeks of negotiating and questions that nobody seemed to have the answers to - we got our visas and set off for Mongolia, basically.
